Kirsten Shastri, Head of Life Sciences at Tokio Marine Kiln

Kirsten Shastri, Head of Life Sciences at Tokio Marine Kiln, specialises in providing bespoke insurance products for the Life Sciences industry. With a science degree from UCL and time spent in research, Kirsten brought a fresh perspective to the field of Life Sciences insurance and a desire to help companies properly protect their innovations.

She played a pivotal role in developing covers for vaccine manufacturers during the COVID-19 pandemic and has also developed innovative solutions for the technology-enabled healthcare sector for products such as smart medical devices, medical software, and telemedicine.

It has become evident that there is more focus needed for the FemHealth/FemTech space from an insurance coverage perspective. Tokio Marine Kiln is dedicated to working together with both start-ups and larger companies to assist in creating the right insurance coverages for the novel ideas being developed in the FemHealth/FemTech world, and making sure such products and services are protected if the unexpected occurs.

Sophie Park, Managing Director - Bayer’s G4A Investments & Partnerships

Sophie Park is the Managing Director of G4A Investments & Partnerships at Bayer. Sophie joined Bayer's Digital Strategy team in 2016 under the Board of Management for Innovation leading the development and implementation of Bayer AG's digital and transformation strategy. For a decade, she has held various roles within the healthcare industry through advising, consulting, and leading NGOs, multinational corporates, and government institutions in not only developing their digital health growth and investment strategy but also launching innovation frameworks and programs both in the United States and abroad. She is passionate about public health and scaling sustainable and equitable access for people through digital health. Currently, she leads the strategic digital health investments through G4A as the Managing Director of G4A Strategic Investments and Partnerships.

G4A is Bayer’s digital health partnerships and investments team dedicated to scaling digital health companies to change the experience of health. Our team’s vision is to reach health for all through digital health. We are working together with like-minded start-ups, offering early-stage start-up investments as well as commercial partnerships and late-stage investments.

Mariama Boumanjal, Google for Startups UK lead

Mariama Boumanjal is the Google for Startups UK lead managing their programs and portfolios of 200 startup alumni from the UK and across EMEA. Mariama also manages the Black Founders Fund, having deployed $13m to over 170 Black Founders Fund across Europe and Africa in the last two years with founders securing over $200m in follow-up funding. Mariama celebrated her 8th Google anniversary last month and is passionate about how technology can tackle women's health issues at scale across various sub-industries. In 2021, she launched the first Google for Startups Women Health Founders Academy in Europe and Israel that helps rising stars in space take their products to market.

Dr Elina Berglund Scherwitzl is the co-founder and co-CEO of Natural Cycles, the women’s health company that developed the world’s first birth control app. As a Class II medical device, the NC° app is cleared by the FDA in the United States and certified to be used as a contraceptive in Europe, Australia, and Singapore. It has also received regulatory clearances to integrate with third party wearables. Prior to founding Natural Cycles, Elina was part of the team that discovered the Higgs boson at the CERN laboratory, which led to the Nobel Prize in physics in 2013. Following this success, Elina was looking for an effective, natural birth control and decided to apply her skills from particle physics to create a unique algorithm that could accurately pinpoint when a woman was fertile. From there, Natural Cycles was born. Today, Natural Cycles has over 2 million registered users.
